Stand With the Maravi Revival

For centuries, the Maravi Kingdom was a powerful force in central Africa, its influence echoing across generations. At its heart, the capital city of Mankhamba bustled with vibrant markets, the rhythmic pulse of governance, and a flourishing cultural scene.

Traders from distant lands mingled in its streets, exchanging exotic goods and stories under the shade of ancient trees.

Today, the spirit of Mankhamba endures as efforts to restore its legacy bring new life to this historic crossroads.

Kalonga Sosola IX was crowned in November 2025, marking the start of a new chapter for the Chewa people. But this work needs support.

Whether you give once or every month, your contribution goes directly to protecting a heritage site, helping a farmer feed their family, or keeping an ancient tradition alive for the next generation.

This is not charity — it is an investment in people who are building their own future on the foundation of their past. Consider giving today.

Heritage & Conservation

Fund the conservation of the Mankhamba site and protect its deep archaeological record.

Contributions support artefact curation — from Ming Dynasty porcelain to ancient iron-smelting finds — and protect the site from environmental damage and unauthorised excavation.

Chewa Development Fund

Support micro-loans to Chewa farmers through Chewa Development Holdings Limited.

Loans cover seeds, tools, and irrigation for CG9 groundnut farming in Dedza and Salima. Repayment terms align with harvest cycles so farmers are never stretched.

Cultural Arts & Education

Keep the Gule Wamkulu alive and fund scholarships for students of Chewa history.

Your gift funds the Nyau brotherhood, records oral histories from elders, and supports researchers studying the Maravi hegemony across Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique.

How Your Donation Makes a Difference

Four ways we put your support to work

Protecting the Mankhamba site

The Mankhamba site in Dedza District holds seven centuries of history beneath its soil. Your donation funds conservation work at the site, including artefact cataloguing, protection from environmental damage, and preventing illegal excavation. Every contribution helps keep this record of pre-colonial Africa intact.

Supporting Chewa farmers

Through Chewa Development Holdings Limited (CDHL), donations go directly to smallholder farmers as micro-loans. Farmers use this support to buy seeds, tools, and equipment before the planting season, then repay after harvest. The goal is self-reliance — not aid dependency.

Keeping culture alive

The Gule Wamkulu dance and the Nyau brotherhood are living traditions recognised by UNESCO. Your support funds the resources needed to practise, record, and teach these traditions. Grants for students and researchers studying Chewa history are also funded through donations.

Building the Growth Triangle

The Growth Triangle is a regional plan that connects Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique — following the old boundaries of the Maravi Kingdom. Donations support projects in agriculture, energy, and shared infrastructure across these three countries. The aim is prosperity built on a shared history.

Join the Revival

The restoration of the Maravi Kingdom belongs to all Chewa people — and to everyone who values African heritage. Whether you are a historian, a farmer, a student, or a member of the diaspora, there is a place for you in this movement.
